The study of economics and politics started off as ‘political economy’. We have now separated them both that we forget that they are deeply intertwined.

We now live in an age where absolute political power is abhorred by the masses.

A person or a group with immense political power can abuse this to benefit themselves at the expense of others.

This has reached the status of ‘fact’ in our minds. What we fail to realise in the same vein is that economic power is also political power.

People or corporations with immense economic power, will mend the current set of laws and regulations to benefit themselves, and they are more able to do so than the rest of us. Regardless of what argument is put forth, much like a self-interested person, they will always push for what is best for them even if it puts everyone else behind.

So, ‘business as usual’ means letting these economic behemoths to further distort society into one that benefits mostly them.

If the ‘regulars’ in society do not come together and play the field too, then it will not be surprising the ‘regulars’ will suffer more and more, and we will just be reminded that ‘it is all fair’.
