Do you realise that you’re under the Work Dogma?
We have been subscribing to a dogma that most of us do not even realise exists.
When we meet someone, we have conditioned each other to ask ‘What do you do do?’ which is just an abbreviation of ‘How do you sell your labour in return for funds to sustain your living?’
So much so that we subconsciously assign respect and admiration based on this.
Think about a job that you have had. Maybe you are lucky now to have one that you love, but what about when you had one that you didn’t like.
Was that representative of who you are as a person?
We have been tricked into believing that work is central to our identity, and central to how we should see others.
I had a great great aunt who had no job. She raised generations in our family with care and love beyond what any of us could ask for. Is she less deserving of respect and admiration? This is why, I need to say fuck you to to Work Dogma.
While I still have a job and I still have my goals, I am trying to resist pegging my existence to the ‘job’ that I have, and also resist viewing others simply through the work that they do.
