List of party defections in Malaysia’s 2020 Political Crisis

24 February 2020 — Azmin Ali and Zuraida Kamaruddin were sacked from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). Other PKR MPs leave the party. In total, 11 former PKR MPs are in this “Azmin’s faction”.

24 February 2020 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) announced their withdrawal from Pakatan Harapan (PH), thereby causing the collapse of the PH government due to PH no longer controlling a simple majority.

28 February 2020 — A source said to be an aide of Muhyiddin Yassin informs journalists that 10 out of Azmin’s Faction of 11 have joined PPBM. This brings PPBM’s seat tally up from 26 to 36. It is said that the 11th MP will be only an associate member due to PPBM’s restriction of only accepting those with Bumiputera status.

28 February 2020 — With PPBM leaving PH, the previously PH state government of Johor now falls to the other side. After the Johor Sultan interviewed all state assemblymen, he appointed a Barisan Nasional (BN) state assemblyman to be the new Chief Minister. The party defection is currently implicit.
